An Exploration into a Flagship Ministry of a Discipling Movement

Earlier books about the Crossroads Church of Christ were written during its period of growth and controversy by either supporters or critics. What sets At the Crossroads apart is that four decades after the Crossroads era, it is the first attempt to trace the congregation's origins and development through a combination of surveys, interviews, bulletins, journals, congregational records, and private papers.

More than fifty individuals participated in a survey about the literature that helped shape the ideology and spirituality of the congregation, and thirty individuals responded to an in-depth survey regarding their experiences from 1970 to 1985. Steve Staten believes that engaging in the memorialization of the successes, failures, strengths, and weaknesses of influential congregations and movements is both necessary and meaningful.

At least eighty Crossroads-trained preachers, campus ministers, and women's counselors were sent to over thirty Churches of Christ. And most of these men and women ultimately joined the Boston Movement of churches. At the Crossroads can serve as a conversational bridge for those influenced by the developments in various ways.

Researched and written by Stephen F. Staten. 220 pages. Published by Theatron Press.
